Abstract

|
In order to study the effect of Backchulsan on the goblet cell in duodenum of the rat, the experimental animals were administrated with 1 mQ per 200 g body weight of Backchulsan after castor oil through oral cavity. They were sacrified and obtained from duodenum, and fixed in 10% neutral formalin. After embedded in paraffin, sectioned in 5 micrometer thickness, and stained with P.A.S. (periodic acid Schiff¢¥s) reaction. The average number of the goblet cells were counted in each specimen over 60 fields under 400 magnification.
The following results were obtained:
1) Type A in the goblet cells were increased at the 3 hours after treated with Backchulsan in comparision with that of control group administrated of castor oil.
2) Type B in the goblet cells were increased at the 3 hours after treated with Backchulsan in comparision with that of control group administrated of costor oil.
3) Type C in the goblet cells were decreased at the 6 hours after treated with Backchulsan in comparision with that of control group administrated of castor oil.
4) The average number of the goblet cells were decreased at the 6 hours after treated with Backchulsan in comparision with that of control group administrated of castor oil.
